Our Final Dinner of Eat Your City 2009

To celebrate the final night of Eat Your City 2009, my family went out for dinner together and enjoyed the Eat Your City menu at Per Bacco Ristorante.

There were 9 of us in total and a majority ordered the calamari, pictured above.  Pina raved about it and if you know anything about Pina’s obsession with good calamari, that means a lot.

Me, preferring to stay away from foods coming from water, decided to go with the arancini…I was not disappointed.  The sauce that they came on top of was incredible as well.

I also chose the chicken marsala (above) while Pina chose the orange roughy (below.

Time is almost out but its not too late.  Go out now and enjoy the final night of Eat Your City 2009!

Thai Silks Eat Your City 2009 $15 three course lunch.

The Windsor, Ontario food frenzy that has been Eat Your City 2009 all culminates tonight, the final night if EYC ‘09.

Yesterday, we ordered some EYC lunches for takeout from Thai Silk (shown above with fresh avocado rolls, pad thai and mango cheesecake) and Junk Pan-Asian Grill (Chili Grilled Calamari, Junk Chicken Salad and a brownie).  My pad thai was absolutely phenomenal and I could barely finish my 3-course meal there was so much food.

Tonight, our entire family is going to to celebrate a very successful, and tasty, EYC ‘09 by heading out to Per  Bacco Ristorante to try out their $25 EYC 3-course dinner menu.

We advise everyone to call and make reservations. During the final night of Winter Bites 2009, some walkins were turned away from filled to capacity restaurants.

Eat Your City feasts

Not to be outdone by Adriano and his ordering 3 Eat Your City meals in one day from Black Kettle Bistro, I’ve decided to post about my own adventures out this week .

First stop…..Biscuits and Gravy! This was my first time at this new downtown eatery and after hearing Adriano speak about how great it was, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to check it out. Owner, Steve Micallef had it right. From the Eat Your City posters in the window to the little mini menus made up special for this week. I was ecstatic! I love coming into a place that has an event happening and feeling like I’m part of something special.

My 3 course lunch was made up of the Rivercat springrolls filled with catfish and veggies, wash basin chili that had been slow cooked for hours and sweeeeeeeet potato pie. All for $15. To be honest, I didn’t even make it to the sweet potato pie. After the first two courses, I was stuffed. But Steve was kind enough to wrap that pie up for me to take home.

Slow cooked Wash Basin Chili

On Wednesday, Sean and I headed over to The Original Tecumseh Roadhouse for dinner. When we asked for the Eat Your City menu, the waitress didn’t really know what we were talking about which was kind of disappointing but after it was all sorted out, the Roadhouse meal didn’t disappoint. Now this is normally where I would show you a picture of the blackened catfish gumbo I ate…but…umm…well….I kinda devoured it in record time and forgot to take a picture. But here’s what it looked like after….

What used to be Blackened Catfish Gumbo

Today, it was Junk Pan Asian Grill for lunch and for what was an amazing deal. For only $10 I had a 3 course lunch of chili grilled squid, marinated beef tenderloin wrap and an warm, gooey, marshmallowy, chocolatey brownie…I mean c’mon!! $10 for all that??

Warm brownie topped with marshmellows

All fantastic meals without putting me into the poor house.

And don’t forget it’s not all about the food. There are some great events happening too! The ever fabulous vintage shop Jones & Co is offering 30% off storewide, tomrrow night Slice of Style is hosting a Chocolate Tasting from 6pm-10pm, Saint Flamingo Silkscreening Studio is opening their doors to those interested in learning a little bit about silkscreening, Johnny Piez is offering a 24 slice Queen pizza with 4 toppings for only $22.95 plus tax. and Tsunami Glass is offering glass blowing demonstrations and 50% off storewide.

You can get more information on these events here.

Now, remember, there are only 2 more days left for Eat Your City! So if you haven’t been to one of the fantastic restaurants to take advantage of what are some pretty amazing deals, well……hurry up!! You’re running out of time! It’s gonna be over soon!

An Eat Your City Dinner at Per Bacco

Customer Marilyn P. had this to say about Per Bacco’s Eat Your City menu:

“We both had the arancini (arborio rice balls in a wonderful sauce) for starters, then I had orange roughy al Arcobalena ( which was absolutely divine) and my friend had the terrine con verdura which really looked good and she loved it) and we both had tiramissu for dessert. Through out the whole meal, I kept wishing I had brought my camera..the presentations were exquisite.”

If you haven’t decided on where to dine yet during Eat Your City, maybe this can help.

I have been absolutely amazed at what the participating members have been offering for minimal prices during EYC.  Amazing deals are to be had and there are only a couple days left to take advantage of them as Saturday is the last day for Eat Your City.  Here is a look at some of the great deals offered:

Mick’s Irish Pub
This $25 EYC menu really blew me away. Just by ordering the Mick’s Grill ($23.99 by itself on their regular menu) you’ll get your moneys worth.  The grill alone comes with grilled sausage, rib eye and chicken.

Junk Pan-Asian Grill
3-course lunch for only $10.  Enough said.  Options include grilled squid, crab cakes and a beef tenderloin wrap as well as others.

La Zingara Trattoria
Eat Your City at La Zingara provides an opportunity to experience a wonderful fine dining experience at a reasonable price.  Choices included jumbo shrimp and squash ravioli.

Hikari Japanese Restaurant
To be able to get an assortment of 10 pieces of sushi with 8 pieces of california roll, plus 2 more courses on top of that for only $25, this is a sushi lovers dream.

Mezzo Ristorante & Lounge
As stated in the CBC segment on Eat Your City, guests to Mezzo during Eat Your City can save up to $8 on lunch and $15 on dinner. Mezzo is offering all three menu options: $15 lunch and $25 and $35 dinners.

There are many, many great meals to be had during Eat Your City 2009 so be sure to check out the complete listing of restaurants and their menus.

Also remember the Eat Your City events happening throughout the city.  Tonight, Visit the Nancy Johns Gallery & Framing as Aleksander Estate Winery will be hosting a delicious wine tasting. For only $5.00, enjoy a local wine tasting and appetizers from 7:00pm and 10:00pm.

Mastronardi Estate Winery is also hosting an EYC event tonight. Enjoy an enchanting tasting seminar where we discover and celebrate the unique characteristics of 4 varietals. The seminar design includes horizontal flights of wine that will be systemically compared and contrasted starting with the white varietals. A brief interlude of Hors D’oeuvres will be followed by the red varietals. The event is $20 per person and lasts from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. Reservations are required for this event. Please call 519-733-9463 to purchase your tickets.
